Gala evening celebrates Tourism Industry’s Best

(Cambridge, Ontario) On Thursday, April 14, 2005, Cambridge Tourism’s annual Hospitality Hero Awards Gala took place at the Holiday Inn Cambridge, marking the 3rd full year of the customer service recognition program. Mayor Doug Craig, Regional Chair Ken Seiling and a number of local dignitaries joined the monthly winners, their colleagues and friends, to find out who would be named the Overall Hospitality Hero for 2004. The festive evening culminated in the announcement that Doug Wilson, President of Wings of Paradise, had been awarded with the honour. Mr. Wilson was cited as someone for whom customer service is second nature and who continually enhances the experience of visitors to the area. This includes the instance for which he had been nominated – making it easier for a Toronto family without a car to enjoy the butterfly conservatory by meeting them at the local bus terminal and personally shuttling them to and from the attraction.

The elegant affair also featured the presentation of Cambridge Tourism’s three annual Tourism Awards. Melissa Parker, Director of Marketing at Wings of Paradise, won for Outstanding Long Service in the tourism industry. Bill Bennett was recognized in the category of Tourism Impact for the contributions that his Langdon Hall Country House Hotel has made to the local hospitality industry. The award for Best Employee Training and Development went to Laura Harding, owner of Southworks Antiques.

The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual achievement in providing outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area. Awards are presented based on nominations received from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms are available at over 280 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses and at Gateway - The Cambridge Visitor & Business Information Centre. Nominations can also be submitted on the Cambridge Tourism website www.cambridgetourism.com.
