 (Cambridge, Ontario) On Wednesday, May 12th, 2004, Salim Mukadam, Controller at the Holiday Inn Cambridge received the April Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.
Salim was nominated for assisting an extremely frustrated guest late one evening who had arrived at the hotel very late due to long flight delay. On top of this frustration, the airlines also lost his luggage so he desperately needed to launder his clothes. Salim encountered the guest attempting to purchase detergent out of the vending machine, but unfortunately it was out of order! After managing to calm the guest down, Salim drove to a 24 hour pharmacy at midnight to purchase laundry detergent so the guest could wash his clothes. When he returned to the hotel, Salim realized that he did not have the guests’ room number. He immediately went to the font desk to review all of the registration cards until he had narrowed down the room number through process of elimination. Salim delivered the detergent to the guest who was extremely thankful that someone would go out of their way for him after a very long and frustrating evening! When presented with this recognition, Salim exclaimed, “ These are the normal things that we do at the hotel everyday. All of the staff try to help our guests any way that we can. We always try to do our best!”
Cambridge Tourism presented Salim at Holiday Inn Cambridge with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge his achievement.
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program,
launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual
achievement in providing outstanding customer service and
hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding
area. Awards are presented based on nominations received
from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms
