Ontario) On Friday, September 12th, 2003, Kathy Martz and
Tammy Lawton, Owners of Grand Accents, received the August
Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.
A local resident and her out-of-town guests nominated Kathy
and Tammy after they came away thrilled with the help and good
service that they received during a 50% off sale at Grand
Accents. After returning home, the nominator received a
telephone call from the store with an apology that they had
neglected to discount one of her purchases and that they had
been overcharged by $11. Not only did the store call when the
customer would never have known about the mistake, but they
sent the customer an envelope with her returned cash, a gift
certificate and a sincere apology. The nominator was thrilled
and stated "That’s what I call customer service, going above
and beyond. It certainly has bought my loyalty. I’m so glad we
moved to Cambridge 25 years ago."
Kathy and Tammy were overwhelmed when Cambridge Tourism
presented them with their award and stated, “We like to treat
customers as we want to be treated ourselves. Customer service
is the most important part of our business and that allows us
to extend ourselves more than a big corporation can. If we
have access to an item, we will make sure that we get it for
our customers. “
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001,
was designed to recognize individual achievement in providing
outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to
Cambridge & the surrounding area. Awards are presented based
on nominations received from visitors and local area
residents. Nomination forms are available at over 250

Cambridge Visitor & Business Information Centre.
