When technician Chris Bowman was called into the service bay along with the rest of the staff at Bennett
Chevrolet Cadillac in Cambridge, all he knew was that an important announcement was to be made.
What he didn’t realize, however, was that the occasion was all about him. To the cheers and applause of
his co-workers, Chris was presented with Cambridge Tourism’s monthly Hospitality Hero Award.
Chris had been nominated for the customer service award by a customer, who arrived at Bennett’s after
5:30 on the Friday before the Christmas holiday weekend with a faulty automatic window that was
jammed in the open position. Though the shop was officially closed now for three days and Chris was on
his way out the door, he had a look at the problem and decided that it couldn’t wait until Tuesday. Chris
opened up a bay and took the customer’s car door apart to realign and repair the window. Half an hour
later, she was on her way. “Chris is my hero because he stayed after closing on his last day before
beginning his holidays to help me. It was especially appreciated because I don't have a garage for my car
and really didn't know what I would do without his assistance.”
Chris, who has worked at Bennett’s for 6 years, was modest about all the attention. “I just happened to be
the one here when she brought in the car,” he said. “We’re all focussed on the customer because they’re
our number one and we all try to take care of them in any way possible.”
In recognition of Chris’s commitment to customer service, Cambridge Tourism presented him with a
Hospitality Hero plaque, gold lapel pin and a gift basket filled with contributions from Tourism Partner
businesses.
