(Cambridge, Ontario) On Friday, March 12, 2004, Matt Steeves, Guest Services Agent at the Best Western Cambridge Hotel, received the February Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.
Matt was nominated for going out of his way to make sure a guest from Michigan received exceptional service during his stay in Cambridge. When the guest’s business trip was extended to an entire week, he realized that he had only packed enough work clothes for the few days he had originally anticipated. Our nominator went to speak with Matt at the front desk to request some laundry detergent to clean his clothes. Unfortunately, the guest was allergic to all of the brands that the hotel had available, but this didn’t stop Matt. On a cold, snowy February night, Matt walked across the street to Wal-mart and purchased the guest’s preferred brand so that he could do his laundry. Not only did Matt go out of his way to do this for the guest, but he also paid for the detergent out of his own pocket and refused to be reimbursed. The nominator, who has traveled all over the world, said that he really appreciates when someone goes out of his or her way for him - “Matt turned my stay in Cambridge into a great experience and I will be sure to return to Cambridge and stay at the Best Western”.
When presented with his award, Matt exclaimed, “This is unbelievable! Thank-you very much to Cambridge Tourism. This is something I would do for any guest and it’s the type of treatment that any guest should expect when staying at the Best Western Cambridge Hotel”.
Cambridge Tourism presented Matt at Best Western Cambridge Hotel with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge his achievement.
