A Quarter Century of Service Milestone

(Cambridge, Ontario, March, 2005) Carlo Berrini, owner of the venerable Graystones Restaurant in Cambridge, has provided "above and beyond" service to customers since he opened his dining establishment in 1980. He was nominated for a Hospitality Hero Award by a couple that has been enjoying Graystones for many years. "Carlo's willingness to accommodate special requests and his obvious love of the restaurant business always makes for an exceptional evening out," said the nominators. "We feel that Graystones deserves to be rewarded for their long-time commitment to quality and customer service".

Hospitality Hero for February 2005When presented with the award, Carlo expressed surprise that his simple motto -- "it doesn’t cost anything to be nice" -- had earned him such an honour. Asked why he feels the restaurant is consistently cited for customer service excellence (a previous Hospitality Hero award winner is also on staff), Carlo commented that "the secret is making your customers happy and offering an environment where people can take the time to really enjoy themselves in this fast food world". Reflecting on the 25th anniversary of his restaurant, Carlo said that the most satisfying aspect of his long stretch at Graystones has been getting to know so many great people. "If you don’t like people, don’t go in this business. This has got to be a passion".

In recognition of his commitment to customer service, Cambridge Tourism presented Carlo with a Hospitality Hero plaque, gold lapel pin and a gift basket overflowing with contributions from Tourism Partner businesses.

The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual achievement in providing outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area.
