 (Cambridge, Ontario) On Tuesday, February 17, 2004, Linda Kowalchuk, Group Bookings Coordinator at African Lion Safari, received the January Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.
Linda has been working for the African Lion Safari for 16 years and was nominated for her thoughtfulness and for going well out of her way to help a customer. When a visitor called the African Lion Safari hoping to purchase a season’s passport as a Christmas gift, the customer was extremely worried that it wouldn’t arrive by mail in time for Christmas. Linda overheard the phone order and learned that the customer was from Hamilton. Since Linda also lives in Hamilton, she quickly realized that their homes were not far from each other.
That night after work, while taking her dog for its nightly exercise, Linda walked a different route so that she could drop by the customer’s property. Linda surprised her by hand delivering her season’s passport to ensure that she did indeed receive the gift in time for Christmas. The customer was thrilled and relieved, as she had been very stressed at the thought of being without this gift on Christmas morning. When Linda was presented with her award, she told Cambridge Tourism ” I am totally shocked! Dropping off the passport took very little effort. She really needed it and that ‘s the only way I could guarantee it for her. Ensuring the visitor has an enjoyable experience is very important to me. ”
Cambridge Tourism presented Linda at African Lion Safari with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge her achievement.
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program,
launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual
achievement in providing outstanding customer service and
hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding
area. Awards are presented based on nominations received
from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms
