CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO - Rachel Whistance of Wings of Paradise
loves her job, something that is apparent to all of the
visitors that she meets at the butterfly conservatory. She
recently received a Hospitality Hero Award from Cambridge
Tourism in recognition of this commitment to making visitors
feel taken care of. Rachel was nominated for the
affectionate care she extended to a young visitor from a
special needs group. When the nervous girl was delivered by
taxi to the butterfly conservatory well ahead of schedule,
 Rachel went out of her way to make the early arrival feel
welcome and took her on a special tour of the facility. By
the time the rest of the group arrived about half an hour
later, the youngster was feeling content and completely at
ease.
Rachel expressed amazement and gratitude when surprised with
the Hospitality Hero Award. "I didn’t see this coming at
all", she said. "Thank you so much!" Asked what customer
service means to her, Rachel replied that it is important to
"really enjoy working with people and to take pride in your
job". She downplayed her act of hospitality, saying that it
is her pleasure to make sure that all visitors have a great
experience at the attraction.
In recognition of her commitment to customer service,
Cambridge Tourism presented Rachel with a Hospitality Hero
plaque, gold lapel pin and a gift basket filled with
contributions from Tourism Partner businesses.
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program,
launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual
achievement in providing outstanding customer service and
hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding
area. Awards are presented based on nominations received
from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms
are available at over 280 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses
and at Gateway - The Cambridge Visitor & Business Information
