DRIVING VISITORS TO PARADISE!

(Cambridge, Ontario) On Monday, April 19th, 2004, Doug Wilson, President of Wings of Paradise Butterfly Conservatory, received the March Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.

All of the staff at Wings of Paradise were pitching in during the busy March Break, including the President, Doug Wilson, who was assisting with taking telephone inquiries. He was nominated for assisting a visitor from Toronto who desperately wanted to bring her daughter to Cambridge to see the butterflies. The only glitch in her plan was that she had no vehicle to drive to Cambridge, but she was willing to take the bus. Doug told her not to worry and that he would figure out all of the travel arrangements and costs for her. Doug researched a variety of options and discovered that they needed to travel by Greyhound Bus from Toronto to the Cambridge Terminal, switch onto a Grand River Transit city bus to Sportsworld and then catch a cab from there. He even worked out the times for arrival and departure and communicated all of this information back to her. Realizing what a journey this family had ahead of them, Doug offered to personally pick her and her family up at the Cambridge Bus Terminal when they arrived. After spending the entire day at Wings of Paradise, Doug personally drove them back to the Bus Terminal so that they would have more time in the conservatory.

Our visitor was overwhelmed at how helpful Doug had been in planning her trip and that he had taken the time to pick them up and drop them off at the bus station. When presented with this recognition, Doug exclaimed, “I am very grateful for this award. Customer service is what we are all about. We all pitch in to make sure our guests are comfortable and that they all walk away feeling good. The whole customer service process is so wonderful and so easy!”

Cambridge Tourism presented Doug at Wings of Paradise Butterfly Conservatory with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge his achievement.
