MAKING GREAT SERVICE A PRIORITY

(Cambridge, Ontario) On Thursday, June 17th, 2004, Henrietta Van Leeuwen, Server at the Blackshop Restaurant, received the May Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism. Henrietta displayed a wealth of graciousness and hospitality when she accommodated a group of three people who required extra attention on an extremely busy day. It was Administrative Assistants Day, when the nominator brought family members visiting from Massachusetts into the Blackshop Restaurant for lunch. The group included the nominator, her handicapped Brother, her elderly Mother and her elderly Aunt. Even without reservations on this very busy day, they were still seated promptly. The nominator indicated that Henrietta continuously stopped to check on them and went out of her way to ensure that they were happy and comfortable. Henrietta’s great attitude and accommodating personality made them feel like they were the only people in the room. The nominator was so pleased with her service that they wanted to take the opportunity to thank her by nominating her for this award.

Alec Cerny, owner of the Blackshop Restaurant, commented, “All of the staff at the Blackshop are hired with service in mind. Henrietta goes above and beyond even more so than anyone and is quickly able to be personable with the guests and pick up on their needs.”

When presented with this recognition, Henrietta exclaimed with tears in her eyes, “ Guests always come first. I want them to be happy from the minute they walk in the door until the moment they leave. Thank-you so much . . . this is such a nice surprise!”
Cambridge Tourism presented Henrietta at the Blackshop Restaurant with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our Tourism Partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge her achievement.
