Serving Customer Satisfaction

(Cambridge, Ontario) On Tuesday, November 9, 2004, Tyler Kiernander, Co-owner and Chef of Neco Blue Restaurant in Cambridge, received the October Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.

The nominator was one of four ladies who were visiting Cambridge for a girl’s weekend away. The group was staying at Langdon Hall and had decided to try Neco Blue for lunch. Since the restaurant can accommodate only a few tables, guests receive very personalized service from its staff. On this particular afternoon, Tyler was handling the restaurant on his own. Even though Tyler was extremely busy, he still took the time to share lots of information with the group about the history of the building, artwork on the walls and the community itself. The nominator described the service that they received at Neco Blue as extremely friendly and delivered with a big smile. The guests praised Tyler’s friendly and gracious demeanor and noted that their food was delivered efficiently and hot, not to mention tasting delicious! Tyler went above and beyond to take the time to ensure he maintained a comfortable, fun and hospitable dining experience for the entire group.

Tyler has been co-owner of Neco Blue since it opened in March 2003. When presented with this recognition, Tyler exclaimed, “It’s all about the customers! People often say that customer service is number one, but you really have to do it. My philosophy is that anything a customer wants, they are going to get”.

Cambridge Tourism presented Tyler at Neco Blue with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our Tourism Partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and gold lapel pins to acknowledge his achievement.

The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual achievement in providing outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area.
