(Cambridge, Ontario) On Friday March 7, 2003, Linda Elder, Owner of Kwik Kopy, Cambridge, received the February Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.

It was 5:15 p.m. on a Friday afternoon when a panicked customer called Kwik Kopy with a rush job. The customer did not know at the time that Kwik Kopy had closed at 4:00 p.m. that day. The client needed 2000 copies of an event program printed and folded for a Sunday morning tradeshow.

Linda Elder, who was already working late, was not about to close her doors on a panicked customer. She re-opened her print shop, that had already closed for the weekend, and got to work. Linda also came in over the weekend on her personal time to coordinate and complete the job. “That’s what customer service is all about,” said Linda. “It sets you apart from other suppliers.”

Cambridge Tourism surprised Linda at her shop with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses. Meanwhile in another room, nominator Tara Brooks was anxiously awaiting the surprise visit as she obtained a quote for another job. “She’s a life saver!” says Tara, “she is always going above the call of duty to help others.”

Linda had no idea that this surprise was taking place and was almost left speechless when the Cambridge Tourism staff and local media crew walked into her shop on Franklin Boulevard. Linda commented, “I’ll have to share this basket with my son, since he did come in to help me out that weekend.” She said that she’d also be sharing the basket with her staff, who work every day to provide the best possible customer service.

The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual achievement in providing outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area. Awards are presented based on nominations received from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms are available at over 250 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses and at Gateway - the Cambridge Visitor & Business Information Centre. Nominations can also be submitted on the Cambridge Tourism website www.cambridgetourism.com.
