(Kitchener, Ontario) On Thursday, June 5, 2003, Linda Outwater, Room Attendant at the Holiday Inn Kitchener, received the May Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.

Linda Outwater, a vital member of the Holiday Inn Kitcheners housekeeping staff for 9 years, was recognized by a long-term guest for going ‘above-and-beyond’ her expectations and duties as a room attendant. Jonathan Lund, General Manager at the Holiday Inn Kitchener indicated “Everything Linda does is quite magical and she always does something extra special for every guest”. Ensuring cutlery, plates and napkins were available in the nominators room and providing a humidifier when he was having health problems with the weather, are only a couple of examples of going that extra mile. The nominator spends a lot of time on the road in various hotels and has never experienced such fantastic service from a hotel, especially from their housekeeping staff. The nominator told Cambridge Tourism that “it was such a refreshing change to come and stay in this area”, he nominated her “because he wanted to do something to thank her and the hotel”.

Linda was shocked when Cambridge Tourism presented her with the award and said, “I have enjoyed every minute of working here, and to me it’s not just a job. It’s important to me that guests have a great experience because I want them to come back. She also said, “I don’t get to travel so getting to know our guests and learning about the places they’re from is my way of traveling”.

Cambridge Tourism surprised Linda at the Holiday Inn Kitchener with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge her achievement.

The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual achievement in providing outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area. Awards are presented based on nominations received from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms are available at over 280 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses and at Gateway - the Cambridge Visitor & Business Information Centre. Nominations can also be submitted on the Cambridge Tourism website www.cambridgetourism.com.
