(Cambridge, Ontario) On Tuesday, July 8th, 2003, Vatche Soghomonian, Manager at Galaxy Cinema, received the June Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge Tourism.

After only working at Galaxy Cinema for 3 months, Vatche Soghomonian is already proving to be a customer service star. As Manager, Vatche was nominated for providing a guest with outstanding service and hospitality. The nominator took a group of 8 people, including her 5-year-old nephew, to an afternoon matinee. Her nephew's ears have a very strong sensitivity to loud sounds, but unfortunately she had forgotten to bring along his earplugs that day. Once the movie started he was very upset and screamed with pain due to the sensitivity. Vatche reacted immediately and provided her nephew with headphones to cover his ears. When the headphones did not work, Vatche and his staff arranged for chairs to be placed at the back of the theatre to relocate the group. Concerned that this experience had spoiled the group’s visit, Vatche provided replacement tickets for them to come back and see the movie again. The nominator was extremely impressed and told Cambridge Tourism, “He went way out of his way to make us feel comfortable – he didn’t have to do that for all of us!”

When Vatche was presented with the award he exclaimed, “Wow! This is a great surprise, I am very overwhelmed.” He added, “In customer service you just need to have a positive attitude and make sure that you are always there. Sometimes a simple hello can do wonders”. General Manager, Bruce Rostamian said, “We are very proud of his accomplishment, let’s celebrate!”

Cambridge Tourism surprised Vatche at Galaxy Cinemas with a gift basket overflowing with contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge his achievement.

The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual achievement in providing outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area. Awards are presented based on nominations received from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms are available at over 280 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses and at Gateway - the Cambridge Visitor & Business Information Centre. Nominations can also be submitted on the Cambridge Tourism website www.cambridgetourism.com.
