 (Cambridge, Ontario) On Thursday, August 6th,
2003, Mary Schmalz, President of Forever Young Spa Centre,
received the July Hospitality Hero Award presented by Cambridge
Tourism.
Thoughtful
is one word that could be used to describe Mary Schmalz,
President of Forever Young Day Spa. It was Mary’s kind heart that got her nominated
for the July Hospitality Hero Award. After immigrating to
Cambridge from Holland this past winter, the nominators were
very unfamiliar with Cambridge and found it difficult to
meet people. One afternoon the couple was walking past the
Forever Young Spa in downtown Cambridge when Mary greeted
them on the sidewalk and invited them inside for a tour.
During the tour, Mary discovered that they were new to the
area and decided to give them both free treatments as a
welcome to Canada. In the weeks to follow, Mary invited them
out to local events and networking groups so that they could
meet new people, network for new jobs and learn more about
what Cambridge has to offer. The nominators acknowledged
that since meeting Mary, they now know their way around
Cambridge, have met many new people and are familiar with
many of the shops and their owners. She was so welcoming to
them, that they felt they had really been shown the Canadian
way and what Canada is truly all about. They are
overwhelmed as Mary still continues in her efforts to reach
out to them. When
Cambridge Tourism presented Mary with her award, she
was extremely grateful and indicated that customer service
is all about going above and beyond and is something
that they do with passion. She also added that
it is not done alone and is definitely a team effort.
Cambridge Tourism surprised Mary at
Forever Young Day Spa with a gift basket overflowing with
contributions from our tourism partner businesses, a
Hospitality Hero plaque and a gold lapel pin to acknowledge
her achievement.
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program,
launched in October 2001, is designed to recognize individual
achievement in providing outstanding customer service
and hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding
area. Awards are presented based on nominations received
from visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms
are available at over 280 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses
and at Gateway - the Cambridge Visitor & Business
Information Centre. Nominations can also be submitted
on the Cambridge Tourism website www.cambridgetourism.com.
