On Friday August 2, 2002 Cambridge Tourism presented Jay
Martinek, Owner of Blairview Bed & Breakfast with the July
Hospitality Hero Award.
One visit to Blairview Bed & Breakfast and you’ll want to
return. Jay Martinek, host of Blairview, is known for going
‘above-and-beyond’ by looking after the little things. No
request is too large or small for Jay to accommodate – whether
you require a dinner reservation, a hair appointment with a
local hairdresser, the use of her personal washer and dryer,
or a special meal due to dietary restrictions, Jay will gladly
help you out. Upon discovering a couple was about to become
engaged during their stay at Blairview, Jay even went as far
as to sprinkle the floors and guest room with rose petals, to
set the stage for a perfect proposal.
Jay, with her extensive background in human resources
management is a definitely a ‘people’ person and she, along
with her partner Marg Taggart have operated Blairview for 6
years, after relocating from Toronto. This historic home,
located in what was formerly know as Galt, is situated on a
quiet corner on a beautifully tree-lined street. The outside
of the house only begins to give you a taste of what to expect
when you enter. Oak floors, antiques and tastefully decorated
rooms provide guests with a luxurious feeling – and many
return again and again to enjoy the hospitality extended to
them at Blairview Bed & Breakfast.
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program, launched in October 2001,
was designed to recognize individual achievement in providing
outstanding customer service and hospitality to visitors to
Cambridge & the surrounding area. Awards are presented based
