On Thursday, February 7, 2002 Cambridge Tourism presented
Susan Hare, Guest Services Representative from the Holiday Inn
Cambridge, the January Hospitality Hero Award.
Ms. Hare, an integral member of the Cambridge Holiday Inn’s
front line team, was recognized by a colleague for going
‘above-and-beyond’ the call of duty. Susan has been with the
Holiday Inn for only 5 months, but in that short amount of
time she has embodied what the Holiday Inn Cambridge
represents and strives for in quality of service.
Susan was nominated by one of her colleagues for an
exceptional act of kindness. She generously drove an elderly
woman to Ayr to save her waiting 2 hours for a ride from her
daughter who was at work. This woman was not a guest of the
Holiday Inn but a transient visitor who was dropped off by the
airport shuttle service. Susan, who does not even live in Ayr,
took it upon herself to help out and went out of her way to
ensure that this visitor to Cambridge was treated kindly.

Susan was totally unaware of why the Cambridge Tourism team
had arrived, en mass, at the Holiday Inn on Thursday. Upon
finding out that the celebration was in her honour, she was
almost brought to tears. Susan was presented with a
personalized certificate, gold lapel pin and a basket of
gifts, complements of many Cambridge Tourism Partners. Geoff
Eisenbraun, General Manager of the Holiday Inn Cambridge,
commented, “This is a fantastic program. It is a win-win for
everyone.”
The Hospitality Hero Awards Program was recently launched in
October 2001 and was designed to recognize individual
achievement in providing outstanding customer service and
hospitality to visitors to Cambridge and the surrounding area.
Awards are presented based on nominations received from
visitors and local area residents. Nomination forms are
available at over 200 Cambridge Tourism Partner businesses and
at Gateway, the Cambridge Visitor & Business Information
Centre. Visitors can also submit nominations on-line at the
Cambridge Tourism website
