(Cambridge, Ontario – September 17, 2002) On Monday September 16, 2002 Cambridge Tourism presented the 9th Hospitality Hero Award to local resident and City Cab driver David Addicott.

David Addicott has been driving a cab for over 20 years, the last 10 with Cambridge City Cab.  He regularly picks up and drops off many of the same people but one day, upon returning from the Toronto airport where he had just dropped off a fare, he heard a phone ringing in the back seat of his cab.  The phone belonged to a man who had been in Cambridge on business but was flying home to North Carolina. Upon answering the phone and obtaining the address of the owner, David promptly returned to Cambridge and headed to a nearby courier company to get the phone returned. Upon finding out the courier company did not send items collect, he pulled out his wallet and offered to pay the cost of returning the phone himself, of which the courier company agreed due to extenuating circumstances would not be necessary.  David a soft-spoken man said  “People’s cell phones are very important to them and they contain a lot of important information, it was the right thing to do to return it to the owner”.

Consequently, local Reporter columnist Walter Gowing overheard the story while waiting at the courier company and not only wrote a column about the exceptional act of kindness but also submitted a nomination form to Cambridge Tourism.  Thank you to David Addicott who is not only a great City Cab employee but also a great ambassador for the City of Cambridge.
