Tourism recognizes the importance of excellent customer service
in providing visitors with a positive experience in the community. Everyone
who deals with the public, even minimally, has the power to
impact the Tourism Industry. Tourism has far-reaching effects
on the overall health of a community and the 230 million dollars*
injected into Waterloo Region in tourism expenditures, undeniably
influences the quality of life for all of its residents.
Since 1995 Cambridge Tourism has been the Local Host
Organization for the nationally recognized SuperHost training
program. SuperHost training focuses on the
development of core customer service skills for the hospitality
and tourism industries and is ideal for both entry level
and front line staff in all industry sectors. This program,
provided by the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC)
and the Customer Service Excellence Corporation (CSEC) teaches
the skills & attitudes to ‘wow’ customers
and encourages pride and professionalism in the community,
which makes all visitors feel welcome.
The SuperHost workshop is completed in a one-day, 7-hour
session whereby participants enjoy fun and interactive learning
from a certified trainer. SuperHost students come away
with an increased understanding of their role in providing
excellent customer service as well as the practical skills
necessary to effectively implement this knowledge in a variety
of situations. To mark the successful completion of the workshop,
a certificate and logo lapel pin are awarded.
Anton
Heimpel, Owner/Operator of At the Crossroads Restaurant in
Elmira recently sent 16 of his staff through the training and
states,
“SuperHost training has been a very positive experience for
the staff…it was informative and taught everyone something
about the service industry and how to handle themselves in
our line of work. I was very pleased with the overall experience & have
noticed many of the people trained have been putting their
new knowledge to use in the workplace. I intend on sending
more of our staff to the training…”
Since
moving to the Cambridge Visitor & Business Information
Centre in June 2001, 114 people from 47 businesses from
Cambridge and area have successfully completed SuperHost training.
Businesses include: the Cambridge & Kitchener Comfort Inns,
Reid Candy & Nut Shop, Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Wings
of Paradise, Flag Raiders, Doon Heritage Crossroads, Paderno
Cookware, & many more.
SuperHost workshops are offered monthly for the low cost
of $80/individual (includes workbook, certificate of achievement,
lapel pin and lunch). Upcoming workshops take place at the Cambridge
Visitor & Business Information Centre
Monday, September 9 and Monday, November 4. Call Lisa Haddow,
Visitor Services Co-ordinator for more information and to enroll
today.
